As of 2017, I’m starting to review fantasy books. However it has come to my attention (thanks Fantasy-Faction folks!) that talented female fantasy authors are really not getting the attention they deserve.
So for the next 6-12 months I am only reading fantasy written by female writers. I prefer indie, because they need love too, but I’ll review traditional. All reviews will go to Amazon, Goodreads, and anywhere else you ask, and probably here at some point. If I really enjoy the book I’ll shout it out wherever I can, like facebook/twitter and to other reviewers/podcasters. But please note:
I’m a fantasy writer, and I’m honest. If your story lacks imagination or craft, if there’s no hook, constant info dumps, unrealistic characters, no trope twists, etc, I will say so. I may very well not finish the book. But if I don’t, I’ll at least tell you why.
Preferences: Basically, fantasy for grown-ups. Profanity, romance/sex, violence, ‘darkness’ and ‘grit’ do not and cannot put me off, as long as well written. I particularly love epic, grimdark, and flintlock. I also prefer low fantasy to high fantasy settings. But really, if you think you’ve got a great fantasy story, I’ll read it regardless of sub-genre.
So, to be clear: I am currently only accepting books under the following criteria:
- Fantasy genre
- Female author
- Self-published preferred
What to include in your requests:
- Title of the book (and series, if it’s part of one)
- Page or word count
- Formats available – I’m happy with ebooks (.mobi, .epub), or physical copies
- Amazon/Goodreads links if published
- Bonus: a couple good quotes from the book
Thanks. You can contact me for requests at firstname.lastname@example.org
